1.

AC POWER SUPPLY TO DOMESTIC CONSUMERS WITH BATTERY BACKUP:


For power supply to domestic consumers, energy reserve through batteries is the first area to consider to meet essential load requirements during the load shedding.  Customers generally look for short term, cheaper solutions although they are expensive in the long run such as Diesel General, UPS etc and reluctant to install solar system because of initial investment.  To install a solar system is economical, easy to maintain and long lasting with added advantage of savings on electricity bills. Your investment is retuned in 5 or 6 years which is a reasonable rate of return.  In addition your property value is enhanced by an equivalent amount.

AC POWER SUPPLY TO TUBEWELLS WITHOUT BATTERIES:


We should make maximum use of solar panels without batteries, as batteries are the weakest link in the solar power system.  Maintenance of batteries is not only difficult but also expensive. Solar water pumps can be installed without batteries as tubewells are mostly run during the day time if backup supply is available from the utility it will be used as standby power

Thousand of tubewells in Sind and Punjab Provinces are not functioning due to non availability of power supply thus badly effecting production of agriculture.  In Sind Province thousands of additional tubewells are also needed to lower the underground water level which will also boost crop production and will have great socio-economic impact on life of people.  In these areas solar powered tubewells can be installed without provision of batteries, which will substantially reduce the cost of solar power supply system and will also make the system maintenance free.  In case, backup of power supply from a utility is available, excess power generated can be fed back into the utility power supply system, thus substantially compensating the cost of Solar System. The main advantage of solar system, is that they require little maintenance.

DC POWER SUPPLY TO TUBEWELLS WITHOUT BATTERIES:


Where standalone Solar System is used, elimination of Inverter and batteries can be considered which will result in reduced cost and maintenance free system, provided supply of D.C appliances for the proposed system is ensured.   One such application is D.C submersible water pumps, which are used for cattle and live stock watering and irrigation.

The D.C submersible pumps, run by solar system is a cost effective solution as it consists of following parts:

 

i.    Solar Panel
ii.    Control Panel for Controlling and Protection
iii.   Brush less DC Motor drive
iv.   Submersible pump

 

The D.C submersible water pump along with solar power supply is available from 2HP to 30HP, with 2" to 6" dia pipe for 45 to 300 feet deep water level.  Information relating to water output, depth, water table and solar panels capacity is given in the following table:

Installation of solar D.C tubewells are highly economical, highly reliable and cost of maintenance is low.  The cost is compatible with conventional tubewells taking into account free power supply from the solar panels.

SOLAR OPERATED TELECOMMUNICATIONS TOWERS:


Telecommunication towers are located all over the country, where utility power supply is normally not available and solar power supply is the most economical and the only viable solution.

AC POWER SMALL INDUSTRIES, FACTORIES, OFFICES & COMMERCIAL BUSINESS:


Solar power can be installed eliminating batteries for running small industries, factories, offices in commercial areas and even to meet domestic loads particularly air conditioning loads during the day time with backup power supply, from Distribution Companies.

Installation of solar power system on small and medium scale industries, factories etc. will result in:

HOW TO ESTIMATE YOUR POWER CONSUMPTION REQUIREMENT:

 

The easiest way to calculate your power consumption is to workout average for winter and summer consumption over the last one year from the utility bills.  This will give you an idea how much power energy you consume in Kilowatt hours.
 
If you choose to install solar power system you have to fix priorities in the choice of appliances, so that they are not used all at a time.  Appliances divergent use is recommended to keep power demand to its minimum.
