VALUE OF YOUR INVESTMENT:

PAY BACK PERIOD:

To give our readers an idea about value of their investment, payback period has been worked out with the following assumptions:

Number of sunny days /year

= 300 days

Average sunny days /month

= 25 days

Sun hours /day in summer

= 8

Sun hours /day in winter

= 6

Average sun hours /day

= 7

Units generated /day for 10kw solar array

= 70 units

Average cost /unit of utility

= Rs.16 /unit (the cost /unit is likely to be raised to Rs.20 /unit in the near future)

Cost saved /month

= Rs.28,000 /month

Cost saved /year

= Rs.336,000 /year

Estimated cost for 10kw of solar system

= Rs. 1.7 million

Payback Period

= 5 years

Based on the above analogy monthly output and saving for various sizes of solar array are estimated as under:

Sr. No. Size of Solar Array Month output based on 7 hours sunshine @100% utilization factor Saving/month @Rs.16/unit Saving/year Payback Period
1 2000 watts 350 units Rs.5,600 Rs.67,00 6-7 Yrs
2. 4000 watts 700 units Rs.11,200 Rs.134,400 6-7 Yrs
3. 600 watts 1050 units Rs.16,800 Rs. 201,600 5 1/2 - 6 Yrs
4 8000 watts 1400 units Rs.22,400 Rs. 336,000 5 1/2- 6 Yrs
5 10000 watts 1750 units Rs.28,000 Rs. 336,000 5 - 5 1/2 Yrs
6 15000 watts 2625 units Rs.42,000 Rs. 504,000 5 - 5 1/2 Yrs

Your total investment on solar system project is paid back in 5-6 years which is reasonably a high rate of return in addition to following:

VALUE ADDITIONS:

Value of your property with solar generation system is enhanced with an equivalent amount.

Solar system has a minimum life of 25 years against payback period of 5-6 years. For the remaining period of 20 years, customers will get energy free of charge from the God gifted sun except for minor maintenance charges of the system.

No carbon dioxide omission will keep the world clean and green.

God has gifted Pakistan with plenty of solar energy.  We should therefore focus on using this clean power to secure our future.

In the future, utilities in Pakistan may also purchase excess power from the consumers having solar system to meet their shortfall by installing import/export meters at consumer premises and give rebate in their running bills for the units supplied to utility, thus such consumers are likely to enjoy electricity at a reduced cost for rest of their life as the net units consumed will be differential of import and export units.
